If you have a large master bedroom with a high ceiling, you may be thinking that a super king size headboard is the best option for you—and you would probably be right. Many people wish they could use a larger headboard in their room since the bed is usually the focal point and the headboard is typically thought of as another piece of furniture, but in smaller rooms with smaller beds it would probably just swallow up the space. But for a large room and especially one with high ceilings, it’s even recommended that you choose a larger headboard so that it seems more in proportion to the space.
To choose the right super king size headboard for you, make sure you take some measurements. Your high ceiling will probably accommodate it but you want to be sure your headboard won’t be too big. If it reaches too high to the ceiling this can make it seem too imposing; think of floor lamps and how high they stand. One that reaches the ceiling is just too high. And it can work against you visually, bringing the ceiling height down rather than bringing the eye up. So make sure it doesn’t reach too close to the lowest part of the ceiling. Measure the location of the bed, too, since you don’t want it to be too wide, either; it should be the focal point of the room but not seem as if it’s taking up the entire room! You will also need room to walk around the bed and to place side tables, so your super king size headboard should still leave enough room on the sides of the bed as well.
When you have a large bed, it’s a common mistake to use a lot of busy accessories, thinking this will fill the space. While some patterns are going to be visually appealing, too much will just clutter up the bed and the bedroom itself. When you have a super king size headboard you may also want to opt for something simple because the headboard itself will draw in the eye. To give the room visual interest, try deep, bold colors. Anything too lacy or ruffled will probably get lost in the visual aspect of the bed and simply detract from your strong, handsome headboard.
Furniture need to be in proportion when working with large pieces or a large bed. Strong materials such as oak or walnut are typically recommended and they too should be of a good size so as to complement the super king size headboard. Furniture that is too small may seem out of place, and many small pieces can begin to look like clutter. Instead, opt for just a few very large, bold, strong pieces that will work well with your headboard and the size of your bed. If you do, you’re sure to have a bedroom that is very pleasing!
