If you are a single bed owner, you know just how difficult it can be to have them stand out in a larger room. You may have purchased the smaller bed due to a decreased room size – maybe you are living in a dormitory or small studio apartment, or perhaps you are shopping around for a single headboard for your child's bed. Most single beds are about 39 inches wide and 80 inches long, but with a good headboard you will be able to easily make that small single bed stand out in any room.
At this point, you may have not actually even purchased a bed for the bedroom yet. Though it is tempting to go for a larger sized bed, such as a double or a queen, consider how large these beds would be in that specific room and how much less room for other furniture and furnishings there would be. There seems to be a misconception that single beds lack the comfort of a larger bed, but this just is not true. Children and adults alike can easily lie comfortably in a single bed.
Just because the room that you are decorating is rather small, this does not mean that this room has to go without flair and style. A single headboard can certainly bring the focal point of the room right to where it should be – the bed.
You may also not realize the vast array of different headboards there are on the market these days. Whatever your style or room decor, you are certain to find a headboard that will bring the whole bedroom together and complete the room.
Now comes most tedious part of the whole process: measurements. It is important to take accurate measurements so that you can be sure that the headboard you fall in love with will actually fit in your room and with your bed. Be sure to measure the single mattress and box spring, as well. Just because a headboard states that it is made for a single bed does not necessarily mean that it will fit your single bed. Manufacturers sometimes have different sizes for their beds. Even a difference of an inch can greatly affect how well the single headboard will fit. Be sure to measure the bed frame as well, if you already have one. Measure the wall next. Look around the room, and choose which wall you think you will be placing the bed against. Now, measure the height of the wall, and mark the mid-point. This is the maximum height that you want your headboard to be. Take the other furniture in the room into account as well and note where it is positioned. With a headboard, will you still be able to easily move about the
room? Will the room appear overcrowded? You may need to consider moving around some furniture, or moving it to another room.
Once you have done your measurements, it is time for the fun part: choosing a single headboard for yourself! You may be surprised to find just how many variations of headboards there are out there. One option that is particularly popular with children and those who are living in dormitories for school is a shelving unit headboard. It provides much needed storage space, and yet still places the focus on the bed in the room. For young children, there are also other fun designs, like popular TV show characters or puzzle pieces. Whatever it is you desire, there is a single headboard out there for you!
